A leaked build of Duke Nukem 3D: Reload, a fan project that never saw the light of day, has surfaced online with its source code, editors, development assets and gameplay footage. Players can own a canceled remake of Duke Nukem 3D with a 4.8GB downloadable version created on Unreal Engine 3.
Duke Nukem 3D: Reload started a decade ago as a fan project by Frederik Schreiber, but the game was never released to the public. It was originally intended to be the next generation version of Duke Nukem 3D. However, Reload had to be canceled in 2010 due to legal issues between Gearbox Software and Interceptor Entertainment. Fans heard about the project last in 2011, when the developers announced that they would finish the game at a later date. More than a decade later, Reloaded has been leaked online with its incomplete build.
This leaked build of Duke Nukem 3D: Reload includes in-game screenshots, gameplay clips, development assets, editors, and even a playable version. Using the build, not only can players rejuvenate the Duke Nukem experience, but they can also play and explore the game as it is. It also includes the source code, so it will be interesting to see what mod developers can do with the build in progress. Interested players can download Duke Nukem 3D: Reload, which is 4.8 GB in size and runs on Unreal Engine 5, from the link here.
The build also showcases the fan project’s gameplay footage, menu items, weapons, settings, inventory and hero in action. In addition, the latter shows a test map in which the player tries to hit targets with a catalog of weapons.
The Duke Nukem community received a leaked version of Prey 1995 in May and the 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever in December last year, including the source code that gives players the ability to change the game. The last game in the series, Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, was released by Gearbox in 2016.
